The WEA looks to the following passages of Holy Scripture on
persecution of Christians.

• Matthew
  5: 10-112
  Jesus said: “Blessed are those
  who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of
  heaven. Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all
  kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad for your
  reward is great in heave, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who
  were before you.”

  Timothy 3:12
  … everyone who wants to live a holy life in Christ Jesus will be
  persecuted…
• Hebrews
  13:3
  Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those
  who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.

  Peter 2: 13-17 , especially verse 16
  Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live
  as servants of God.
• Hebrews
  10: 32-39 , especially verse 34
  You sympathized with those in prison, and joyfully accepted the
  confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had
  better and lasting possessions.
